“We did start off slow,” said Cruz. “We were down 1-0 for the first 10 minutes, then we just kicked it off. We started getting hot, and we started getting into our game.”

Along with Cruz’s goals, Chief Yeoman Kyle Kistner and Fireman Vincente Lopez each had a goal to seal the win.

“I was elated that we got the first goal to tie the game, but I was still worried cause we needed at least two more,” said Kistner. “We needed a goal to win and one insurance goal. Luckily, we got it.”

This is Chester FC Alpha’s second consecutive championship game, with last year’s game resulting in an upset loss for the team.

“It felt good to get redemption out there,” said Kistner. “We played the championship two years in a row, and we got it in the first game this time. It felt great.”

There are a handful of new players that weren’t on last year’s team who turned in notable performances. Fire Controlman 2nd Class Heather Bonamico had five saves and Aviation Ordnanceman Airman Jose Lorenzana had one assist.

“The difference from last year were the players and the heart that they put into the game,” said Kistner.

Chester FC Alpha finished off the season with a 17-1 record.
